Lesson 8

Schisms, Scholars, & Soldiers

The Middle Ages begin with the fall of Rome in 476. They extend for roughly 1,000 years, until the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Western civilization experiences significant change during this time, as the nations of Europe slowly rise out of the rubble of the old Roman Empire. In this lesson, we look at the highe and late Middle Ages, specifically focusing on the East/West Schism of 1054, the Crusades, and the rise of Scholasticism.
